I've been secretly enjoying the postings going on lately. Been pretty busy making new stairs for the house. Now to install them is another torturous job. I took a day off Tuesday to go to my favorite haunt to experiment with some ND filters. This particular shot was at eleven in the morning and shot at f/11 - ISO 100 and 30 seconds exposure. I have a 10 stop ND filter for these types of shots. Now all I have to do next is get down to your New England neck of the woods and the famous lighthouses etc..

Thanks, Lauren. If I ever do get down that way I'll sure take you up on that coffee. We have a few good lighthouses up here. Peggy's Cove is a prime example, but people are over it like ants. Very hard to get a decent photo during regular days. I've see so many wonderful shots of the New England lights that it's become an obsession for me to try my hand at a few hopefully before they cover me with sod . . LOL  As far as the steps go, I'd love to pay someone and be off shooting. Then I look at the cost and see what I'm saving, I change my mind quickly. My 100 - 400mm is getting closer with every hammer blow . . .

Absolutely sensational image!!

I love what the long exposure has done in terms of softening the clouds and water. And the lighthouse looks great.

It has taken me this long to say something about that picture. Yes... i've been totally speechless over it for the past 2 days already. I showed it to my son and even he is speechless. We both don't know what to say about it other than wow! He just stared at it, and i stared at it.  notworthy

Thanks one and all for the kind comments. It was my very first try with this filter and I guess it turned out okay. I was somewhat lucky this day. The sun came up to the left of the photo low and under a low cloud cover. This gave almost a "spotlight" on the lighthouse itself. The darker clouds were coming in from the west and added a little dramatic color behind the light. Everything conspired to help me that morning.  It's in quite an isolated piece of shoreline and I kept hoping I wouldn't slip and twist anything. Then I came upon this a little ways in from the shore. I wonder what happened here . . . where are they? I kept an eye on the woods.   ROFL

Thanks, Warren. Figured you'd catch it soon enough. I've bookmarked it for reference.

Very nice shot. I have a 6 stop ND filter that just doesn't get enough use anymore...of course the same could be said for all my camera equipment as of late.
